On January 25, German Ambassador to Moldova, Matthias Meyer attended at the Technical University of Moldova the commissioning of a modern nanotechnology equipment, donated by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation from Germany.

The event was also attended by the First vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, acad. Ion Tighineanu and the vice-rector of the Technical University of Moldova, , assoc.prof. Dr. Valentin Amariei as well as young researchers.

During the event, the German Ambassador transmitted the donation certificate to the doctor of technical sciences Veaceslav Popa from the National Center for Materials Study and Testing. The equipment is aimed for plasma etching of passive dielectric films on a variety of devices, including sensors, detectors, transistors, etc.

Dr. Popa spend 2 years in Germany as Alexander von Humboldt scholarship recipient, pursuing "Humboldt" post-doctoral program. On return, the "Humboldt Foundation" offered this equipment to support for further research in this area in Moldova, which is undoubtedly a success case for the country. The equipment was installed during the previous week by German specialists and the young researchers from Moldova are currently learning the respective technological processes. The value of the donated equipment is estimated at 20 000 euros.

Acad. Ion Tighineanu, expressed his sincere thanks to HE German Ambassador to Moldova, Matthias Meyer, German Embassy and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for the donation of the equipment required by the Moldovan scientists, for the beautiful and noble gesture of support to young researchers from Moldova, nanotechnology enthusiasts. Acad. Ion Tighineanu stressed the importance of scientific cooperation between Moldova and Germany to integrate our country into the European Research Area in order to ensure excellence of the national research and successful participation of our scientists in community projects funded by the European Commission.
