Academic Access - The Bristol Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information

The Bristol Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information (NSQI) provides free-to-user, state-of-the-art specialised laboratories whose vibration and acoustic noise levels are amongst the lowest achieved anywhere world-wide. It also has a unique purpose-designed environment in which a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research community drawn from science, engineering, and medicine can be fostered and thrive through stimulating interactions and the exchange of ideas.

The Centre for NSQI is a joint initiative by the Faculties of Science, Engineering and Medical & Veterinary Sciences at the University of Bristol. It supports researchers from a large number of University departments including Aerospace Engineering, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Ophthalmology, Physics and Physiology & Pharmacology.

Facilities: Located in the heart of the University of Bristol precinct, the four storey, 1620 m2 building boasts low noise laboratories the vibration curves of which fall below the most stringent criteria set for extremely quiet research spaces (Vibration Criteria G - VC-G).

Access: the Centre for NSQI is open to any researcher at the University of Bristol working in the nanoscience or quantum information areas, requiring only available space and a successful application. Use of the building is free and lab space comes with free technical support, free consumables and communal lab equipment.

The Centre for NSQI will also act as a hub for NS & Quantum Information research throughout the University, taking on the running of the whole research theme. The Centre also hosts the Doctoral Training Centre for Functional Nanomaterials (BCFN) and is providing PhD students with a base and teaching space amongst the Nanoscience community and the Centre for Quantum Photonics.
